Thoth ball

Eh. A lot of people in gowns. A lot of tuxes. A lot of pageantry. Some bands. Not enough utensils.

I bought black and white gloves and it came down to a game-time decision - white gloves won.
White gloves win

So tired my eyes are closing
The ball starts with TWO HOURS of introducing the court, which is always interesting for about 15 minutes. We have kings and queens here? They take themselves seriously? I'm supposed to rise for the king's entrance? You know, all that. Then they start introducing seven dozen pages and ladies in waiting, and I lose interest. After that is the ball, with dancing, open bar, and food. It doesn't even start until ten! I wasn't drinking, and it's hard to eat while wearing opera length gloves, so not super thrilling. Basically the whole point of the ball was to dress up, though, so we accomplished that.

  2. You look so glamorous in your ball gown and gloves... My kids pediatrician is really into Mardi Gras. I believe he was a King back in 2010. He has a ton of memorabilia in his practice. Yeah I think he took the whole thing really seriously. Strange how the Kings are in their 40's and the Queens are in their early 20's

    1. I know. And every year they do a front-page spread on the queen of Rex, and she's always like, "Oh, I had NO IDEA I would be queen" - except her mom and her aunt were both queens one year. Kind of her destiny.

  3. Your dress looks gorgeous! I'm so impressed that you made it!! The 2 hours of court introduction would have bored me so much as I couldn't handle the fact that it doesn't start until 10 as that's about when I am getting ready for bed - even on the weekends. ;) But I bet it was fun to have an excuse to get all dressed up!

  4. Ha, I was just thinking I should wear gloves, they look so lovely, then I got to your comment about how it's hard to eat with them and I realized that's why I don't! I've got it down to 2 dress options for this year. Will have to show photos. Your dress looks great!

    1. I had to read up on glove etiquette. You can remove them to eat, but since you can't remove them in public, that was out - I wasn't going to walk all the way to the rest room to take them off. Plus they were keeping me warm!
