Five years

Five years ago today I was up early, getting ready for my 10 am wedding to my best friend! We were
casual about our wedding: morning ceremony, unmatched bridesmaid dresses, jazz brunch after.
No dancing. No bouquet toss. No garter. No traditions.

We just wanted to enjoy a celebration with our friends, and that's what we did - over lox bagels and bloody marys.
We've kept our marriage like that, too. For two type-A personalities with a little OCD and a little perfectionism, that's not easy: but we don't take things too seriously and always laugh at ourselves. It sounds unrealistic, but we've never had a major fight: we settle our little arguments quickly and don't keep hard feelings. Every day we go closer and every day we love our life more!

I can't believe it's been five years already. We still feel like newlyweds!

  1. Congratulations! I was waiting to read "and I made my wedding dress by hand the night before..."!

    1. Well, actually...I DID make my wedding dress! I designed it and made a pattern, bought silk, sewed it up - and it cost $70 for everything (fabric, lining, zipper, lace, thread, pattern paper - everything).

  2. Happy anniversary!! I love the relaxed approach you took to your wedding. Which is impressive given that you are a type A! Enjoy your day of celebrating!!

And I am uber immpressed you made your dress!! :)

  3. Happy Anniversary! I love that you did it in relaxed way...I think brides get so stressed out over the wedding instead of just enjoying themselves!

  4. Happy anniversary! Beautiful dress, Gracie. I wish my wedding had been more relaxed. What a great way to start out a marriage.

  5. happy anniversary!
    I LOVE your dress!!
I had a simple wedding also
bought my dress off the rack for $99!
    no wedding party

  6. Happy anniversary! I hope you get to do something special this weekend. I love the picture! Beautiful! :)

  7. Happy belated anniversary! Love the dress (especially that you made it!) and all the unique details. The frou frou weddings are pretty and fun but at the end of the day - a lot of money "invested" into a few hours of your life. I always appreciate a wedding that is personaliZed and quirky :)

  8. Love that wedding picture! Happy Anniversary!!

  9. Happy anniversary!

(PS - I knew I liked you for a reason! Our wedding was also a dozen people + brunch and we share similar views/practices on married life. I cringe whenever someone trash-talks their "lazy husband" or "wife who spends all my money." We don't have to live the stereotype!)

CHEERS to you and your husband! May you celebrate many more happy anniversaries. :)

  10. Happy Anniversary to you!!!! Wishing you many more years of joy :)

  11. Happy Anniversary! I think the relaxed approach you took is awesome, especially considering you are both type A like you said :) And good for you for never having a major fight! Can't say the same for myself but we're working on it ;)

  12. Happy anniversary belated! You were a gorgeous bride and still are! You made your dress?! Amazing!
