More easy racing

I found a few pictures from Greek Fest. I look very warm. Also, not sure why I brought sunglasses, then wore them on my head and squinted. 


This weekend, I have another easy race. We're running the Crescent Connection bridge run, a 4 mile run over a big bridge designed to confuse our flat-land legs. We've run this race before, and last time we brought a neighbor and had a great time. But I wasn't actually ready to race again just yet: I want to actually do some training for the next race! David disagreed, though, and registered me behind my back. Sneaky. I don't know what's come over him: I'm supposed to be the one pressuring the other spouse to run races. 
I guess this will be another easy race, especially given the route: mostly uphill (the downhill side of the bridge is a steep spiral, so you can't get full benefit of it to make up for the miles of climbing you just completed). I'm definitely not in very fast shape, so I expect that will be a tough, slow slog for me. No winning glass alligators this time!

  1. I've got a 4 mile race this weekend too! Guess it's that season down by us where there just aren't as many long races...

  2. Jealous! I really wanted to run this one but alas, I am solidly in the walk/run category these days. At any rate, I think you're selling yourself short and that while this won't be a PR for you, I'm thinking you'll finish top 5 women at least--providing this is anything like that Huey P. Long race a few weeks ago. The overall female winner ran it in 22-something. I was surprised at that.

    1. Yeah...but last time I ran this bridge I was in far better shape and couldn't get my average time under 7 min/mile. I'm slow on inclines!

  3. The two shirtless kids in picture one crack me up. Agree with the glasses scenario - I've often taken mine and had to "head them" about a mile into the run because they fog up or just don't need them. Unfortunately, I don't have as much hair as you and I end up balancing them on my skull they whole run as they try to slide off.

    I'm a little worried about your hips this weekend (probably sounds weird out of context). You know this, but steep inclines/declines are notorious for hip issues. Hopefully you'll be wise and run this thing very slowly. You've had a good couple of months, just don't want to to see you have a setback. So just have fun with it!

    1. Hm, hadn't thought of that. The incline isn't terribly steep, but the decline is. I'll try to watch out. Luckily I have no choice but to run slowly!

  4. Your husband is way more bold than mine. Mine would never dream to enter me into a race.

    1. He's done it to me several times, including a 5k the Saturday following the Boston marathon - which he didn't even tell me about until Friday!

  5. I'm glad you've been able to return to racing, even though it's at paces that feel 'slow' to you! Considering all your body has been through, I think it's pretty darn amazing that you are running as strongly as you are these days!
